What is the Financial Management Major? With Kelly Kennedy and Dr. Paul Gilson

Kelly Kennedy interviews Dr. Paul Gilson, Associate Professor In-Residence and Academic Director of the Finance Department at the University of Connecticut. Learn about the Financial Management major, the CFA Institute, and what the career path of a Financial Management major looks like. Kelly and Paul discuss the advantages of the Financial Management major which include proximity to employers in Hartford and Stamford, UConn's close connection to the CFA Society, prep for the CFA exams, access to guest speakers, and events for students to connect with the industry. Dr. Paul Gilson completed his PhD in Finance and Entrepreneurship at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He began his career as an accountant with KPMG Peat Marwick in both Atlanta and London, and later served as CFO and EVP of strategic development of the Maxim Group in Atlanta, specializing in IPOs and mergers and acquisitions. Dr. Gilson has helped numerous startups prepare business plans and fundraising activities. His research interests include the application of game theoretic models to the relationship between entrepreneurs and the institutions that finance startups. He has co-authored book chapters on teams, creativity and entrepreneurship.
